Provided Summerville resident Don Turpin’s 1954 Plymouth Savoy

On the Friday before Thanksgiving last year, Lee Siler of CBS Films arranged to have a ’54 Plymouth 2-door Savoy belonging to Don Turpin of Summerville, picked up for transport to Atlanta, GA for filming scheduled the following Tuesday.

The film is Jon Turteltaub’s Last Vegas.

“My car was ultimately chosen for its overall original appearance and color scheme,” said Turpin.

Turpin noted that Local Mopar enthusiast Dan Larrabee made the connection from the photo’s taken at Patriot’s Point and Lee Siler of CBS Films.

Turpin hopes that this may turn into an opportunity to become involved in other movies and TV programs produced locally in the Charleston area, as Siler is from Mt. Pleasant.

This opportunity came through photos taken as a direct result of a joint meeting in October with three other Mopar groups, says Turpin. (Mopar, a portmanteau of motor and parts, is the Parts, Service and Customer Care organization within Chrysler Group LLC. Mopar also designs and builds a small number of customized vehicles.) Another Palmetto Region POC member’s car was also considered, Turpin continued, Hugh Hiotts ’48 Plymouth Sedan.

“Last Vegas,” starring Michael Douglas, Morgan Freeman, Robert De Niro, Kevin Kline and Mary Steenburgen, will be in Movie Theaters Friday, November 1.
